I am riding for my two sisters, Lori Peterman and Julie Robinson, as well as my choir member Lyn VanDervort. Below is Lori's story.
In October of 2014 I received an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis. I completed genetic testing and found out that I tested positive for the BRCA 2 genetic mutation. Even though my cancer was detected in only one breast, it had spread to five lymph nodes located under that same arm. Due to the cancer spreading and the positive BRCA 2 testing result, I made the decision to have a double mastectomy in order to lower my chances of any possibility of it returning. My oncologist stated that she recommended a treatment of 6 months of weekly chemotherapy, with three separate medicines, followed by 12-16 rounds of daily radiation to further prevent any reoccurrence. I fully trusted my oncologist and followed her recommendations. After four years, I continue to be without any evidence of cancer, praise God, and I hope and pray that I continue to live this way. Cancer really interrupts your life and turns it upside down. It is a very scary time. Its a disease that I don’t wish on anyone!
